PROJECT SEARCH

Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence is a proud Project SEARCH host business in collaboration with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board

Project SEARCH is a unique school-to-work training program for students with disabilities. Students are immersed at a host business and get more than 700 hours of hands-on work experience geared to in-demand roles in the local labour market. They learn employability skills and plan their careers with guidance from a teacher and skills trainers. The program providing hands-on learning through a series of internships. Participants gain valuable work experience, develop job skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence is a passion project for its owners, the Herak & Vuckovic families. Being of a Croatian background, they envisioned a place for the older adults of their community to age in dignity and independence, enjoying their traditional foods, music, dances, activities, and celebrations.

They put their personal touch on every piece of furniture, and chose the design and the materials to reflect what they would want for their own parents and grandparents. They ensured that there is well-lit spots for playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle table, a country kitchen to allow for baking strudels, and beautiful outdoor areas for a game of bocce or a quiet rest on a bench.
