]]>Respite Care in Brampton: Short-Term Recovery & Support at Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence
Are you searching for a safe, supportive environment for a senior loved one who needs a little extra help? Whether it’s recovering from a hospital stay or giving a primary caregiver a well-deserved break, many families ask: Does Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence offer respite stays?
The answer is yes.
At Ashley Oaks, we provide professional respite care and short-term stays designed to bridge the gap between hospital and home, or simply to provide a "home away from home" when life gets busy.
A Seamless Transition: Fully Furnished Respite Suites
Moving into a senior living community—even for a few weeks—shouldn't feel like a chore. We make the transition as seamless as possible.
Our bright and cheerful respite suites are fully furnished, containing everything your loved one needs for a comfortable stay. From cozy linens and comfortable furniture to the bedside lamp, we’ve thought of every detail. All you need to bring is a suitcase with clothes and personal items. We take care of the rest, including weekly housekeeping.
Healing Through Connection, Not Isolation
Physical healing is only one part of the journey back to health. At Ashley Oaks, we believe that social and spiritual well-being are just as vital.
While recovering at home can often feel isolating, our residents are surrounded by a vibrant community. Whether it’s a friendly chat over a chef-prepared lunch in our dining room or watching a movie with neighbors in the lounge, the social connections we foster are a key part of the 'getting back to health' process.
Essential Support for Caregivers
Respite isn't just for the resident; it’s for the family, too. If you are a caregiver heading away on vacation or simply need a period of rest to recharge, Ashley Oaks offers you total peace of mind.
You can travel or rest knowing our professional team is onsite 24/7 to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for your loved one.
Safety and Security You Can Trust
Safety is built into the very fabric of our residence. Our respite suites are designed with senior-friendly features to prevent falls and promote independence, including:
- Accessible bathrooms with sturdy grab bars.
- 24/7 Emergency response systems in every suite.
- Professional staff just a button-push away.
This level of security provides a layer of protection that is often difficult to replicate at home during a recovery period.
Plan Ahead: Book Your Respite Stay Today
The best time to plan for a respite stay is before you need it. Don’t wait until the day of a hospital discharge to try and find a solution.
Ready to book a recovery stay or a tour of our suites?

]]>Is Ashley Oaks a Pet-Friendly Retirement Residence?
One of the most frequent questions families ask when exploring senior living options is: “Can I bring my pet?” At Ashley Oaks, the answer is a resounding yes!
We believe that pets are cherished members of the family. Our community is intentionally a pet-friendly retirement residence where you and your furry companions can feel right at home.
Living at Ashley Oaks with Your Pet
Our policy allows residents to keep pets in their private suites and enjoy many of our common spaces together. Here is what you can expect when moving into our pet-friendly senior community:
- Accessible Areas: You will regularly see pets in our hallways, the elevator, and our beautiful outdoor courtyard.
- Health & Safety: To maintain high standards of hygiene, pets are restricted from areas where food is prepared or served (such as dining rooms), unless they are certified service animals.
- Social Events: We love animals! We frequently host pet-related recreation activities and invite therapy animals from the community to visit our residents.
Resident Pet Owner Responsibilities
To ensure a harmonious environment for everyone, we ask our pet owners to follow the guidelines in our Resident Handbook. Key responsibilities include:
- Care & Hygiene: Residents are responsible for feeding, grooming, and the immediate disposal of all pet waste.
- Safety First: Pets must remain leashed when inside the retirement residence and outside of private suites.
- Noise & Courtesy: We ask that owners ensure their pets do not create late-night noise or disrupt the peace of their neighbors.
- Emergency Planning: Every pet owner must have a "back-up plan." In the event of an emergency or a prolonged absence, a family member or friend must be designated to take over the pet’s care.
At Ashley Oaks, we don't just "allow" pets—we welcome them. We look forward to meeting you and your four-legged friends!

]]>Most retirement homes don’t have a waiting list for their regular suites. They may have specific suites that are more desirable, or have a certain feature that people prefer, which may have a waitlist. For example, Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence has leased all of our one-bedroom suites, and we have a waitlist for anyone looking for these.
If you are looking for a one-bedroom suite, we suggest that you move into one of our large studio suites and wait to move internally when your desired suite is available.
Once you choose a suite, there are a few steps we will need for you to complete before you move in. For example: we will ask you to have your physician fill in a form about your medical status, our director of care will need to assess you, we will need you and your substitute decision maker to review and sign a lease agreement, etc. Our team will help guide you through this process, and it could be completed within a few days.
You and your family will have to arrange the moving of your belongings to your new home, and perhaps for the sale of your current home.
Another option for you would be to move in as a temporary stay for up to 30 days. If you choose this option, our director of care will still need to assess you, and if you require care, ensure that we can care for you safely. But other than that, you will move into one of the furnished suites that we keep exactly for short-term stays.
This will allow you to try out Ashley Oaks, and see how well it fits you, meet your new senior neighbours, participate in activities, and experience all that we can offer. At the same time, your family can help arrange the rest of the paperwork and the moving of your belongings and furniture into your chosen suite.
If you have any questions, please contact Ashley Oaks team, and we will be happy to answer any questions, and help you navigate the next steps.
We look forward to hearing from you.

]]>We call it aging-in-place.
Many seniors move into retirement homes because they are lonely and want to spend time in the company of friends, or because they are tired of cooking or shoveling snow. We find that when they first move into Ashley Oaks, most of our residents do not have any care needs, and if they do, those needs are small – they may need help managing their medications, or they may need help with showering or their laundry. At Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence, these services are included in your monthly fee.
Of course, as years go by, some residents require more help and support, and we have team members that can provide the care that they need. Our director of wellness is a nurse, and she regularly assesses our residents and recommends the type of care that they might need. As long as our nurse feels that it is safe for you and for our home that you continue to live at Ashely Oaks, we will do our best to provide all the care you need, without having you move from the suite that is your home.
There are many things that we can do for you in the privacy of your suite, that will allow you to stay with us, in your home. We can help you get dressed in the morning, we can help you transfer from your bed to a wheelchair, we can help you with any of your activities of daily living. At the time of the assessment, our nurse will let you know if there is an extra fee for the extra help that you need, and it will be based on the amount of time our team spends with you each day.
If the care required is too complex, and we feel that it isn’t safe for you (or for our team) to provide this care at Ashley Oaks, we will support you and your family in finding alternative accommodations and will be very sad to see you leave.

]]>Being of a Croatian background, they envisioned a place for the older adults of their community to age in dignity and independence, enjoying their traditional foods, music, dances, activities, and celebrations. And so, Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence is a Canadian company with an East European touch.
On some days, you can find the owners in our building cooking the foods they grew up on to share with the residents, or the Executive Director’s father playing his accordion for everyone’s enjoyment.

On the other hand, our current residents are a reflection of the population of Canada – some grew up in Canada, some come here from other countries, all around the globe – Italy, Germany, Portugal, India.
Same goes for our team – we have Croatian speaking team members, and others who can speak many other languages, but they are all Canadian.
Ashley Oaks is special, being family owned, and not a part of a large chain. The owners care about this retirement residence, and its reputation is very important to them. They put their personal touch on every piece of furniture and chose the design and the materials to reflect what they would want for their own parents and grandparents. They ensured that there are well-lit spots for playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle table, a country kitchen to allow for baking strudels, and beautiful outdoor areas for a game of bocce or a quiet rest on a bench.

]]>Our independent living suites are all spacious and can easily accommodate more than one person. Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence’s studio suites are large enough to fit a queen-sized bed, and if you would like more space, we also offer 1-bedroom suites. But hurry, our larger suites are almost all gone!
We currently have married couples who share a suite, but also a mother and her daughter living together in a suite, and if you have a sibling or close friend that you would like to share a suite with, as long as you are comfortable living together, we can accommodate that.
To live in a retirement home in Ontario, residents must go through an assessment by our Director of Care, and provide medical information from their family physician. This will apply to both people who occupy a suite. We will require both to sign our lease and commit to following our rules and regulations.
We do charge a second occupant fee that covers the costs of having another person living in the suite, such as their meals, the utilities and the services included in the monthly fee, and we can assure you that our second occupant fee is among the lowest you will find in the Brampton – Mississauga – Georgetown area.
If you and your spouse would rather live in separate suites, we can accommodate that as well. In that case, you will have to pay the full price of both suites, but talk to our team, and we can provide a discounted rate.

]]>We understand that deciding to move into a retirement home can be difficult. Most of us move only a few times in our lives, and older adults sometimes live in the same home for a few decades. Moving is a big change and a big decision, and we would like to support you in this transition.
Ashley Oaks Retirement Residence offers trial stays exactly for that reason. We have a few furnished suites where you can stay for two weeks and experience life in our community. This will allow you to meet our team and your new friendly neighbours; you will get to taste our chef-prepared meals and participate in activities and events. It is an opportunity to understand what an independent living senior residence is all about.

We recommend a two-week stay, because we know from our experience, that it takes time to settle in. In your first few days you might still be learning where everything is, getting used to sleeping in a different bed, and perhaps feeling a bit out-of-place. We promise to do our best to make you feel at home, and in a couple of days you might find that you have met a few people, know the residence better, and then you can really get the full experience.
If you are interested in coming in for a trial stay, contact us by filling our contact form, or call us at 905-455-5163
