Being of a Croatian background, they envisioned a place for the older adults of their community to age in dignity and independence, enjoying their traditional foods, music, dances, activities, and celebrations. On some days, you can find the owners in our building cooking the foods they grew up on to share with the residents, or the Executive Director’s father playing his accordion for everyone’s enjoyment.<\/span>

On the other hand, our current residents are a reflection of the population of Canada – some grew up in Canada, some come here from other countries, all around the globe – Italy, Germany, Portugal, India. <\/span><\/p>\n

Same goes for our team – we have Croatian speaking team members, and others who can speak many other languages, but they are all Canadian.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ashley Oaks is special, being family owned, and not a part of a large chain. The owners care about this retirement residence, and its reputation is very important to them. They put their personal touch on every piece of furniture and chose the design and the materials to reflect what they would want for their own parents and grandparents. They ensured that there are well-lit spots for playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle table, a country kitchen to allow for baking strudels, and beautiful outdoor areas for a game of bocce or a quiet rest on a bench.<\/span><\/p>\n
